About Wild Thyme

Sculpture and jewellery that celebrates the natural world

I have the privilege of living in glorious Pembrokeshire.
A quest for peace and good mental health have led me to practice mindfulness in this environment. A life-long love of wildflowers, initiated by walks with Mum on holidays, has developed into a passion. It’s not really about botanising, but mindful close observation of the plants and their environments.

My intention is to bring this into a public space for others to enjoy. To bring awareness of the intricacies of an individual plant, to see plants differently.

We walk past cosmic levels of beauty every day, and should stop and experience the wonder on offer.

Each plant I represent in my art is deeply studied - a form of mindful observation in itself - using living species, photographs and botanic illustrations. In this way I aim to explore and understand the individual parts of the plant, which are then recreated in as much detail as possible.
Silver, copper and brass are hand-formed, fused and soldered, piece by piece, to create an image as unique as each plant in Nature.

It is important to me not only to highlight those plants that are endangered, rare and under threat, but also the importance and beauty of the commonplace plants we see around us everyday. Otherwise those too may one day become scarce.
